Prison pen pals are important to an inmate

Many people do not like the fact that inmates can recieve mail and furthermore that they can appear online on prison pen pal websites. But we must not forget that these people we call inmates are people. Many of them are in jail or prison because of substance abuse and I think the question really comes down to is putting them in an institution where they can still get drugs a good idea? I think rehabilitation is a far greater idea or counceling. But what many opponents to prison pen pals services say is that hey thats right we have to remember some of these people are criminals and scam artists and often times get 4 or 5 girlfriends and can convince them to send them money or gifts. But I say Buyer beware if you fall in love with an inmate and are sending them money well it’s common sense to use restraint in that position. But to the inmate a prison pen pal is a very valuable thing. Prison is a place that makes us truley feel alone….having someone to talk to even in a letter can help you not feel so alone and give hope.
